Mission, Vision, & More

Mission: To make utility distribution safer and more efficient.

Vision: To be the best association value for our members.

MEA, Midwest ENERGY Association, serves the people that bring electricity and natural gas to American homes and businesses. MEA was founded as a training association over 100 years ago by visionary distribution utilities in the Midwest to improve safety and efficiency. Utility companies nationwide now benefit from MEA's industry roundtables, operations conferences, and other events. Members collaborated to develop EnergyU, the world's premier online training and testing system for the gas and electric utility distribution industry. Our not-for-profit fee structure delivers to members and subscribers the best possible training at the lowest possible cost in the areas of natural gas, liquids, OSHA, electric, and leadership training.

Strategic Goals

We work to accomplish our mission by:

  1. Supporting the development of new energy markets and technology.
  2. Improving the safe use of energy by providing safety training to industry personnel and supporting member safety programs through recognition and awards.
  3. Communicating effectively by regularly listening to member needs, providing the right mix of communications services and bringing together individual members for networking.
  4. Improving individual employee performance by offering training programs unique to member needs and using MEA volunteer leadership positions as developmental opportunities.

Purpose

MEA is a consortium of energy industry organizations that connect their electric and gas field employees, corporate services and management personnel to pursue operational excellence to enhance customer and employee safety, productivity, and positive customer relations. We accomplish this by:

  1. Pooling expertise and dollars to create unique, high-value services such as:  200 training courses, a pharmacy savings consortium, public safety programs, workforce recruitment and development initiatives.
  2. Providing a forum for expressing ideas, sharing information, and developing solutions to identified problems.  midwestenergy.org offers a wide variety of connection and information opportunities.
  3. Conducting major operating conferences, workshops, and classes for electric and gas field employees, corporate services and management.
  4. Creating “distance” or packaged training and certification services available: on the Internet at energyu.org, for use on company intranets, CD-ROMs for local computer use, and instructor/classroom versions.  Materials include; tests, hands on evaluations where needed and various testing and record keeping systems.
  5. Developing compliance tools to meet OSHA, EPA, DOT and emerging electric worker qualification requirements

History

Since 1905 the Midwest ENERGY Association has linked energy delivery companies, pipeline companies, producers, marketers and suppliers who share the unique market, weather and geographic challenges of the Midwest.
