Company Membership Categories
The following types of companies are eligible for membership in MEA as Company members:
- Distribution Company - Electric & Gas Utilities
Any organization engaged in sales or distribution to the public end-user of natural, manufactured, gas or liquefied petroleum or mixed gases or electricity.
Level II Membership - Electric Application Form l Gas Application Form
Includes the traditional benefits of MEA membership - access to our nationally recognized operations conferences and roundtables, participation on our Subject Matter Expert committees, access to our members' successful practices - along with unlimited access to our entire library of gas or electric e-learning modules. Level II members is an extemely cost-effective means of getting your personnel trained, connected, and educated in an ever-demanding energy industry.

Transmission Company - Application Form
Any organization engaged in transporting gas or electricity for ultimate local distribution or direct industrial use.
- Associate Company - Application Form
Any organization which manufactures or distributes equipment or apparatus pertinent to the gas industry, propane or electric industry or others not eligible for other company membership classifications who are closely associated with and regularly render service to the gas propane or electric industry, such as educational institutions.
Associate Membership
For companies that do business with electric distribution utilities. Membership provides for reduced event/function registration fees, eligibility to serve on utility committees, eligibility to participate in senior executive conferences, access to membership directory and contact information, sponsorship opportunities, industry surveys, and special programs.
Basic Associate Membership - Gas or Electric
This membership grants access and member-rates to exhibit at the Annual Gas or Electric Operations Conferences. Attendance and/or exhibiting at any other MEA conference, roundtables, or seminars would be at the non-member rates. All other membership benefits still apply.
Full Associate Membership
Vendors, manufacturers, and distributors who want full access to all MEA functions including the Annual Gas & Electric Operations Conference, EnergyU conference, Gas & Electric Roundtables, Corporate Services Roundtables, and training seminars (Basic or Advances Serviceperson, Leak Detection, etc.) at the member-rate. All other membership benefits still apply.
Contractor Associate Membership
Membership is exclusive to utility contracting companies. Includes full access to all MEA functions including the Annual Gas & Electric Operations Conference, EnergyU conference, Gas & Electric Roundtables, Corporate Services Roundtables, and training seminars (Basic or Advances Serviceperson, Leak Detection, etc.) at the member-rate. All other membership benefits still apply.
- Energy Marketer - Application Form
Any person, partnership, or corporation that acts as principal or agent in arranging for the sale and purchase of natural gas, propane or electricity between the producer as seller and a transmission or distribution company or end user as a buyer. It may also extend to assisting principals with the transportation arrangements, as well as other aspects of the transactions, such as storage services.
- Energy Producer - Application Form
Any person, partnership, or corporation that is engaged in production, gathering, and sale of natural gas, propane or electricity in interstate and/or intrastate commerce, but is not engaged in transmission or distribution of energy.
- Partners in Education - Application Form
For post-secondary education institutions and industry education centers. A member institution gains access to MEA-developed energy industry courseware to help instructors provide registered students with the same content the utilities themselves use. The institution can also use MEA to connect with potential utility or contractor clients to place graduating students.

Membership Dues
Membership dues vary based on each membership category.
- LDCs are based on the total number of meters. 100,000 meters or less join at a flat rate. 100,001 and above dues range from $0.07176 to $0.0256 per meter (Level II).
