This session was presented by Ralph Harms, Itron, Inc. on 8/7/08 at MEA's Annual Operations Conference.
This presentation will clarify the different aspects of automated meter reading (AMR) technology. Provide reasons and justification on why natural gas utilities should consider AMR as part of their data collection and data management systems. Provide an understanding of various AMR solutions. Detail how to formulate an AMR strategy. Show progression from AMR basics to current trends in AMR technologies. Provide a look ahead regarding next generation automated data collection and data management for the natural gas utilities.

This session was presented by Kevin Wilbeck, of R. S. Stover Company, at MEA's 2008 Annual Operations Conference in Ames, Iowa on 8/7/08,
The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the participant to the fundamentals of gas pressure regulators. Regulator design, installation best practices, and a comparison of self-operated and pilot operated regulator styles will be discussed. The goal is to impart a better understanding of how regulator applications differ and why installation methods are important to regulator performance.

The Over Pressure Protection Monitor & Relief class was presented by Dennis Landrum, Fisher Emerson was presented at MEA's 2008 Annual Operations Conference in Ames, IA on 8/7/08.
This presentation will describe and discuss typical over pressure protection options currently used in natural gas distribution applications. These options include: the various forms of pressure relief valves (pop, self operated and pilot operated); series regulation; wide open monitor regulation; working monitor regulation; and slam shut over pressure protection. There will be discussion on the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of each option along with consideration of the impact that each option may have on other areas of natural gas distribution operations.

Presented by Bob Bennett, Elster American Meter at MEA's 2008 Annual Gas Operations Conference.
The Basic Gas Laws are critical to utility companies's revenue stream. Knowledge of Boyle's Law, Charles' Law, the Ideal Gas Law, and the Real Gas Law set the foundation for gas measurement and will be covered. Tariffs, metering, regulation, and instrumentation are all part of measurement and the solution to those Laws. Examples will be shown for each of the Laws and how they are applied in the daily operations of a utility.
